How can I attatch external speakers to my T.V set so I can hear better?

I have a standard |Panasonic T.V. The picture is excellent. The sound is appalling. Lacks clarity.I can't follow all speech.The high tones seem poor.It's all muffled.
I have two spare KEF speakers of good quality I could attach if I knew how to do it.

Like AM's answer, if your TV has outputs, use them. If you have a VCR hooked up and/or a cable box (sky/ntl/whatever) They will also have separate audio outputs and may do a better job than your TV.
Running a cable to your stereo amp is going to work best as the internal amps on all above equipment are not likely to be strong enough to drive your KEF's
