How do I shrink / shorten a phiten necklace?

I just got a phiten necklace the 22 inch one. I wouldve bought the 18 but it was like 31 dollars and I wasnt willing to spend that, so I was wondering if there is a way to make it smaller? Its kind of big on me. Okay thanks :D I could use a lot of help.
